A Sunny Surprise

This weekend I came down with a nasty bladder infection and I felt awful! On Sunday my fellas went to church while I stayed home to continue to recover. Around 12 pm I hear the car doors slam, so I went to the door to welcome my sweet boys home. When I opened the door to my surprise I saw my little prince charming running as fast as he could with a bright yellow bundle of gerber daisies!! WOW! What a way to make me feel better!! I also got a bar of dark chocolate and was quickly informed I had to share that treat right away. "It's DARK chocolate Mommy", Luke announced proudly! What wonderful men God has blessed me with. I am so thankful Travis took the time to teach Luke the sweet lesson of blessing the lady in his life (for now) with such a sweet sunny surprise!

Luke 12:24

"Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have sorehouse nor barn; and God feedeth them: how much more are ye better than the fowls?" This a promise from Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior. I know that through this no matter where I am in this life that He alone is enough to take care of my every need, big or small. The picture at the top of this blog page was a baby bird God allowed me to observe this spring in my hanging plant on the porch. I watched it from the nest building, to the egg laying, to the hatching egg, and I even got to witness it fly out of the nest! Each day of discovery was a constant reminder of this promise. I have no idea how people can be surounded by such miracles and not believe in a Creator. These things are to detailed, to organized to have "just happened".

Title's We Have Rowed

We will be rowing, Mile Mulligan and His Steam Shovel by Virginia Lee Burton.

For Social Studies we will discuss steam power and the many machines that are powered this way. We will make a list of old machines that were steam powered in this book. We will also make a list of the modern day machines that have taken their place.

For geography we will create a map of Mary Anne's journey through the Land of Make believe. We will have a map lesson to introduce the cardinal directions of a map. We will place the North, East, South, West disks on our world map.

Our history lesson will be to find all of the things of days past throughout this book and discuss how they have changed.

Our language arts lessons will include a discussion on the meaning of personification. We will create some of our own objects and give them personalities and human qualities. Luke will come up with a story entitled, "If I Had Mary Anne For A Day", to describe what he would do with this grand old steam shovel. Our two new vocabulary words are; canal and cellar.

Art this week will be all about trees. We will look for all the many different ways the illistrator in this book created the tree images. We will practice painting our own trees.

We will continue Math in our Math U See curriculum book working on place value of tens and ones. We will also dicuss squares, elaborating on the phrase from this book, "four corners neat and square".

We will listen to and watch the story of Mile Mulligan.

Our science lesson will be on steam power. We will watch a DVD and visit a web site on this subject and discuss how steam power works. We will create steam to see if it can turn a pin wheel.

For adde enrichment and learning we will play in the sand box with all of Luke's construction toys. We will also make a point to look for and point out all the big machines we see as we are out and about. This should be an exciting week of discovery with great interest for Luke. He has always been facinated by the big machines in our world.
